Cheese by Stromae

Alors on Danse

In Alors on Danse, Stromae lists everything that is wrong with today's society. He explains the problems that come with family, studying, money, credit, love, etc. He shows that there is nothing left to do but dance. Dancing helps escape all the negatives in life.

Bienvenue chez moi

In Bienvenue chez moi, Stromae describes his home. He sings that his place may seem normal from the outside, but then he goes on to describe the odd things he has collected. He also describes the types of feelings that have been experienced in his home. He also explains the events and experiences that people have had in his house. Overall, he is trying to show that his house is more than just a house, but a place where people have changed.

Te Quiero

Te Quiero basically is the story of being trapped in a miserable relationship. At the beginning of the video, Stromae, as an actor, is enjoying his life as a young man and is uncaring of what's to come. When you add the weight of an abusive partner, children, and   pressure for marriage, you can become overwhelmed and feel trapped. Stromae shows that you have to be knowledgable in your actions so you have good relationships.

Peace or Violence

In this song, Stromae is questioning the well-known peace sign. It means peace, but is also in the shape of v. He asks whether peace represents violence or violence represents peace.Whoever he asked didn't know the answer and they called him pessimistic. The song questions if some actions are peaceful or violent and address the controversial topics that could considered both peaceful and violent.

Rail de musique

Rail de musique expresses how much music helps Stromae enjoy life. He gives many examples to how music is integrated in his everyday life. He listens to music during work and at home. The topic of this song is just a surrealistic world that uses music in everyday things.  It is very apparent that Stromae uses crescendo and decrescendo to change his tone during different parts of the song.

Summertime

In Summertime, Stromae expresses his love of summer and repeatedly states that he doesn't want anything to ruin it. He gives examples that he doesn't want skin cancer and doesn't want to travel too much so he can enjoy his summer. He has a bouncy tune that mirror the fun most people have during the summer.

Dodo

This sad song again shows Stromae's talent. This song is about children and wives who have been abused and beaten by their fathers or husbands. The song portrays in a very visual way to how women are being accused of things and as a result being abused. It then mentions how usually when they are being abused, people keep quiet and don't let anyone know. Stromae discourages this and wants people to be open about it.

Silence

Silence is an instrumental peace of music which is meant to calm and to make you feel peaceful. It uses different beats and instruments to change tones throughout the song. The title is very ironic because you expect just pure silence, but instead the song is instrumental.

Je cours

Je cours, literally meaning I run in French is the story of Stromae trying to run from his miserable life. He explains that he has nuanced thoughts and he can't get his life tgether so he decides to leave.

House'llelujah

The video for this song shows Stromae as a priest based around house music. The congregation watches him on a large screen while standing still, but later start to dance. Stromae expresses his need for help from god and prays all the time. People tell him that God is too good for him, but he still prays.

Cheese

At the beginning in Cheese, Stromae explains he didn't understand anything when he was little. He looked up to grownups thinking they were gods. He didn't understand why he had to pray and he didn't understand why he did the things he did. If grown-ups told him to do something, even if it was something bad, he would still do it. Through all Stromae's troubles, he would force himself to smile when told to, hence the name cheese.
